I am slowly going crazy

Snow in the forcast AGAIN! We had 4 outside days in all April and 2 were windy. Seriously, at this time of the year I start getting extremely anxious about going outside. Where is all the sunshine?
In the meantime, I guess I'll make do with the spring snow. It is, after all, ideal for snowmen. We spent an afternoon outside making and dressing our snowmen. Tanner's is a superhero, Hattie's is a princess, and Peter's a cowboy. It was actually lots of fun, except for poor Peter who hates his snowsuit and the snow because he can't crawl around and when he dumps out of the sled he inevitably face-plants. Tanner and Hattie would spend all day out there except the wet snow makes them soaking wet, and they come tromping in happy and wet. Well, maybe we'll polish off our hot chocolate this weekend.

The Invention of Lying

So, my 'sweet' little Hattie has just discovered how to tell a lie. Not just a deflection of blame, but a full on, crazy story lie. The kind that needs a backup lie. She already thinks she's pretty good at it, and I must admit she is pretty quick thinking about them. No hesitation.

Just a full on crazy lie.

Yesterday I made them leftovers for lunch, which she Hates. I told everyone they had to eat their rice-filled wrap before they could have a cookie. Tanner ate his quick, but Hattie sat at the table singing. After about a half hour of reminding her of the consequences of not eating it, I left the room to get some stuff done, and Hattie stayed at the table singing and not eating. I was in my room for a couple minutes when she came running in and told me she ate her wrap and wanted a cookie. Knowing full well she hadn't eaten her wrap I explained to her that she wouldn't get a cookie if she hadn't eaten it. She insisted she had. So I told her if she was lying to me she would have to go in timeout. Again, she insisted she had eaten the wrap and that it was all gone. Then I told her I was going to look in the garbage. Hattie put her hands up infront of me and said, "you aren't aloud." Um, yes I was. Again, she insisted I wasn't aloud to look in the garbage. We walked into the kitchen together and their was a huge trail of rice from the table to the garbage.

me - Hattie why is there rice on the floor?

Hattie - That's not rice, it's peanut butter

me - um, no it's not, it's rice

Hattie (very matter-of-factly) - nope mom, it's peanut butter

Then I opened the garbage and see her wrap sitting on top {suprise, suprise}

me - Why did you throw your wrap in the garbage?

Hattie - That's my peanut butter wrap

me - no it's not. It's your rice wrap

Hattie - no mom, I had a peanut butter wrap too, and I threw it away.

It was so hard not to laugh the entire time because she truthfully thought she was so smart and sneeky and was so proud of herself for thinking up this great lie to trick me with. Oh, Hattie.

The catch, Monday night we had a FHE on telling the truth and not lying. Apparently that struck a cord with her, but in the wrong way!

Peter's 1st Birthday

Since you only have a first birthday once in your life, I decided to do a photo document of Peter's day!

After breakfast and a bottle I gave him a haircut while he played with rocks on the bathroom counter. Then into the tub for a fun and rare solo bath. I couldn't resist taking one photo of me with him during the day. I love the smell of a clean baby.
After a million trips up and down the stairs and a couple hours playing with Tanner and Hattie, Peter had a good nap and woke up super happy, like always! I love the rosy cheeks after a nap.
For lunch we had apple sauce and crap (Kraft) dinner, which he loved. He also loved having his picture taken while eating. He thought he was really funny.
Then into the van for a trip to ...

The toy store!!! We stayed for 1 1/2 hours, and he was in heaven the entire time.Peter loved pushing all the buttons and tried touching everything in the store. By the end he was SO filthy and SO happy!

Tanner and Hattie love playing on the big ride-ons, so naturally Peter thought it was cool.At home we had a quick snack before some more play time and a Peter favorite supper, sheapard's pie
Then the cake smash session. I took some cute pictures of him before I let him dig in, but everyone was way too excited to see what he would do when he could touch the cake to have any patience watching him get these pictures.
Then the clothes came off and we set the cake in front of him. He stared at it for a little while, then poked it, then hit it, then...Started bawling. He wanted Nothing to do with the cake. I had Larry show him what to do, but Peter didn't want to touch it, eat it, nothing. I love this picture with him crossing his legs away from the cake since we were making him stay there. Then he's off. Once we put him in his seat with a little piece of cake, he was fine. Tanner and Hattie were disappointed that he didn't smash the cake better, but they were thrilled when he tried sharing his cake slice with them.

Then another bath to get the greasy icing off his body, another bottle, and off to bed. What more could a kids ask for from his first birthday.

Hattie's Pinkalicious Birthday Party!

When I say Hattie's Party, I may or may not also mean my party since I had so much fun planning and throwing it. We went with a 'Pinkalicious' theme, since Hattie is currently obsessed with her. She would listen to the music 24/7 if I would let her. In fact, when I turned the cd on during her party, she sat beside it for a long time singing along.
Here is my fantastic dessert bar, complete with Pinkalicious cupcakes.

Cake, cupcakes, cupcake pops, dipped marshmallows, dipped oreos, smarties, waffers, sweedish berries, pink candy corn, and gumball necklaces. Hattie (and I) was so excited at the spread of pink treats! I LOVED that all the girls dressed up in all the princess dresses. They spent the entire hour and a half in Hattie's room playing with her kitchen, dolls and dress ups. Saralynn and I brought them up one-by-one and painted their nails, gave the plastic earrings, a bracelet and ring, and painted their faces.
Lunch was pink bread with pink jam and pink apple sauce with pink lemonade.
Happy Birthday little girl!

Everyone brought such sweet gifts. Hattie was just thrilled to open them from each girl. She was actually really good and polite to everyone.
I did her 'Pinkalicious' hair for her too!

Saralynn made this cutout of pinkalicious for the girls to get a picture in so we could send it out as a Thank you card later.
