All About Easter

Lots of pictures because we had lots of fun! Easter this year was at the end of April, so I was super excited at the prospect of a warm egg hunt outside. Not so. It was FREEZING! Luckily we were able to take part in lots of indoor traditions and brave the wind for a few hours to have a picnic and an Easter egg roll.
To start off the holiday we had Nana, Grandpa, and Miriam over to make some awesome Easter eggs. Since the markers we used on the eggs last year didn't stay, I decided to try something fun and different. The kids LOVED it. Me and Tanner made Superman and Thomas the train while Hattie and Nana made some princesses. Miriam made a knight and dragon to add to the princesses. They all turned out awesome. Luckily all the cloth and glue made the eggs more resistant to breaking since the kids played with them and dropped them a tonne that night too.

Here we are with all our eggs
Saturday, the Galt Museum had a fun easter party for kids. There were tonnes of crafts to do, and the kids had so much fun. Hattie ended up winning an Easter basket draw (it was an awesome basket for a 10 yr-old Hockey fan, but she didn't care much for it - just the thrill of winning) Tanner found some chalk outside and spent most of the time out there drawing hop scotches like the older kids and jumping in it.

Bunny hats, cotten ball sheep, paper wands, rock art, sand art eggs, and coffee filter butterfly

Best of all, the Easter Bunny was there. I warned the kids it might not look like the Easter Bunny and that it might just be one of his helpers, but the moment Tanner and Hattie laid their eyes on him, they KNEW it was the real Easter Bunny. Hattie even went in for a hug, which is a major improvement over her reaction to Santa.

Even Peter got in some Easter Bunny action.

Easter Morning Larry had some church meetings, so the Easter Bunny came while we were at 9am church. When the kids got home from church they had to trip over some jelly bean before they even noticed there was candy everywhere. It seems the Easter Bunny dropped them as he was hopping around the house hiding the baskets. Tanner grabbed a bowl and filled it up fast. Hattie, who we thought would be running around excited, just stood in the middle of the room with a dazed expression. We had to encourage her to pick up some candy and she would eat it slowly still staring at nothing. Kind of anti-climatic.

After a lot of hunting and a little help (okay, a lot of help for Hattie who just stood there) they found their Easter baskets. Hooray!!

Then I had everyone sit down for a quick Easter family self-timer picture.

Monday, the party continued with a day at the park with my family, my parents and siblings, and some friends. It was windy and cold, but the kids all had so much fun playing non-stop. My dad made a little make-shift shelter for the bbq and we had a fun picnic there too.

Peter's favorite part was definitely the slide, but he was all over the place.

All the guys hanging out after the picnic.

All the kids for an attempt at a fun picture of them in the playground. Total failure as you can see.

Then the Easter egg roll/throw. Tanner was SO EXCITED to throw Superman so he could fly, and since he was so well padded, Tanner got to throw him a whole bunch.

Peter even had a blast throwing his egg down the hill over and over. He never tired of it, but once the egg started to crack lots, he didn't want to touch it any more. And every time he would throw it he would say "OOOOH". So cute!

Hattie thought it was pretty silly to throw her princess egg down the hill, but after a while she got the hang of it.

Me and Hattie throwing our Easter egg princesses down the hill.

Hooray for Easter!

  1. I love love love your easter eggs!! I'll have to steal that idea for next year. The easter bunny looked a little scary to me so I'm glad your kids liked him.
