Tanner's First day of Kindergarten

My little boy started kindergarten this year. So bitter sweet. He was so excited, but I was going to miss him so bad. I rely on him for so many things at home, the first and most important being a best friend to Hattie. I didn't put him in preschool because I didn't want him leaving us so soon, even if just for a few hours, so kindergarten was going to be his first schooling experience.
I love this picture because even on his first day of school he is wearing a superhero cape.
We enrolled him in afternoons since neither he or I are morning people. There will be countless years of getting up early in our future. Since starting, he hasn't looked back. He loves school so much. He loves the social aspect, learning, his independence, and his teachers. And, believe it or not, we have learned how to get along without him for the 3 1/2 hours each day. However, from the moment he wakes up in the morning until school starts and immediately after school, costumes get put on and imagination play is in full force at our house. I love it! Thanks for being so awesome Tanner!!

Run For the Pumpkin

Our family did the Run for the Pumpkin race this year, and it was so much fun! The kids were really excited to be doing it, and it was a gorgeous, hot morning.
The race was 2km, which I knew would be really far for the kids, so I was planning on 'skipping unnecessary parts'. As it turns out Tanner is a running machine. He ran fast almost the entire way and didn't want to miss any of the flags. I carried Hattie a good portion of the race. When I would set her down she would start running in front of us, but Tanner would have none of that and would start running really fast to make sure she wouldn't beat him. They both did fantastic! We did it in under 20 minutes (by seconds :) and came in about 150 out of 165. As they crossed the finish line they got a bag of candy, ribbon, chips, and a pumpkin. Possibly the best way to finish a race!
Larry raced next in the 6km race. He actually did killer awesome and came in with college and university track teams still behind him. The kids loved running around the race track and waiting with water and high fives for their dad.
This is definitely a race we will be running again in the future!
